Mike DeCourcy points out that Kaun didn't just let loose on OSU...he's been building his game over the last several weeks. The lack of off-season work due to passport issues in Mother Russia and then his injury definitely slowed his (and the Hawks') development, but now that he's hopefully starting to come into his own.
Over the past three games, Kaun has shot 12-of-15 from the floor and averaged 5.3 rebounds in just 19 minutes per game. That doesn't mean he necessarily needs to be playing more, but it does indicate he can produce and help the Jays win during the time that's allotted to him.
