I had thought that TCU, Tulsa or St. Johns was a more likely option, but evidently JR's name has emerged as a possible addition to los Lobos de Mexico Nuevo.
Former Kansas basketball player J.R. Giddens, who was stabbed in a bar fight that some witnesses say he instigated, is the latest recruit targeted by University of New Mexico coach Ritchie McKay.
The 6-foot-5 sophomore forward averaged 10.1 points and 3.8 rebounds for Kansas last season. As a freshman, Giddens averaged 11.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, earning an honorable mention spot on the All-Big 12 team.
Giddens must sit out one season under NCAA transfer rules and is eligible beginning in the 2006-07 season. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
McKay confirmed Wednesday that he is recruiting Giddens...
Looks like Giddens is just a recruiting target for NM, which isn't particularly surprising. Still, I believe it's the first time we've seen his name officially be mentioned in the papers, so I thought I would drop it your way.
