Collins LOI to KU Leaves Illinois and Weber Desperate

Prized recruit Sherron Collins, who hails from Chicago, delivered his LOI to KU, confirming his commitment to the Jayhawks. For Bruce Weber and the Illini, this means desperate times. Weber did receive commitments from two big guys, 6-11 Brian Carlwell and 6-9 Richard Semrau, both of whom are well regarded 3-4 star prospects. The program is in desperate need of a 2006 guard, however, and Weber failed to deliver.

Consider this quote from Weber published by Courtney Linehan of the Daily Illini:

Weber said he is still looking to pick up one more player in the spring signing period. He said he'd like to sign a guard who can create options on the court. Weber said he doesn't have a specific player in mind, and that he isn't worried about losing possibilities who might sign with other schools in the fall.

"There's always some kid that me, you and even the recruiting services don't know about," Weber said.

Wow! I sure hope he finds a sleeper out there that EVERYONE has overlooked . . . NOT!
