Perkins extends Mangino's contract

Lew Perkins has never struck me as a dumb man. I don't think he'd extend the contract of a coach (at 3x his previous salary) whose program was on the hook for major NCAA penalties. I don't know what the Athletic Department knows, I only know what I suppose. From the KC Star:

"Kansas football coach Mark Mangino has signed a new contract that will keep him in Lawrence through the end of the 2010 season, a source told The Kansas City Star on Thursday.

The source said Mangino's new, five-year deal is worth approximately $1.5 million a year. That's almost three times as much as his old contract, which paid about $650,000 annually and was set to expire after the 2008 campaign."
